HIGH SCHOOL TEACHING PORTFOLIO
Linoleum Block Prints: Utilizing new vocabulary, High School Seniors carved imagery that represents what they hold dear into linoleum blocks. After printing proofs, they critiqued each other's work and made revisions before printing an edition of 10 linoleum block prints. After a lesson on selling your artwork, students carefully selected their best prints to mat and package in protective sleeves for art fair exhibition. High School level 2, Fall 2022.
Self Directed Artwork: Students utilized new techniques using colored pencils, watercolor, pen and ink, and collage to create artworks of their choice incorporating the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. High School Level 1, Spring 2022.
Optical Art - "The Bulge": After a brief art history lecture on Op Art and a demo on drawing grids and scaling up, students designed their own Op Art inspired by Victor Vasarely. Ambitious students went a step further and drew inspiration from Takashi Murakami's "Flower Ball" and "Mr. DOB." High School Level 2, Spring 2022.
Monochromatic Self Portraits: Using a monochromatic color scheme, students created self portraits inspired by portraits of their favorite artists. High School levels 1 & 2, Fall 2021.
Paper "Sculpture" Drawing from Direct Observation: Students were instructed to create a sculpture using only a sheet of paper. After examining their 10 minute creations, they were instructed to draw the sculpture in pencil from direct observation using appropriate values to represent highlights and shadows. High School level 2, Fall 2021.
Josef Albers Inspired Color Studies: As part of our unit on Color Theory, Art 1 students explored color temperature and contrast using paint chips. Students were asked to create eye-catching color interactions through small compositions inspired by Josef Albers. High School level 1, Fall 2021.
Color Harmony Poster Designs: For this project, students were placed in small groups and tasked with designing a poster to advertise their assigned type of color harmony. Students were provided with planning packets that allowed them to conceptualize supporting imagery, design typography, and plan the necessary steps to complete their posters. High School level 1, Fall 2021.
Split Portrait Drawings: Drawing students sourced portraits from magazines or the internet, cut them in half, and used the grid method to draw the missing half of the portrait from their reference image. High School level 2, Fall 2021.
Collage Prompt Narrative Drawings: Tasked with creating a narrative through drawing, students were given papers collaged with an image. Students were to incorporate the incomplete imagery by drawing from imagination in a manner that told a story. High School level 2, Fall 2021.
One-Point Perspective Dream Rooms: Using cut paper, colored pencils, and markers students constructed dream rooms in one-point perspective. High School level 1, Fall 2021.
